Advanced Diagnosis

AsAs always, it is our goal to offer our patients the highest quality dental care possible. We strive to make sure that each patient in our practice receives personalized comprehensive treatment tailored to his or her individual needs.

1 ) Digital radiography

Our dental practice has always provided the most up-to-date care to our patients. Our chief concern has always been to maintain your dental health with the finest care possible. When we found out that we could also make your x-rays safer, it was an easy decision to incorporate Digital Radiology (Digital Dental X-Rays) into our practice. We feel that you deserve the best and we do our best to provide it. Our newest acquisition is the vista scan digital Xray sensors which is the latest in intra oral Xray and the Pro one which represents the new generation of maxillofacial x-ray units. ProMax’s design and operating principles are based on the latest scientific research, advanced technologies, and the requirements of today’s radiology. Planmeca ProMax includes many new features that have never been available before in maxillofacial radiology. The Planmeca ProMax is the state-of-the-art in full mouth Digital Radiography.

2 ) Camera and imaging system

As some of you might have already noticed, we now have in our office a new state-of-the-art intraoral camera and computer system. It allows us to provide services to our patients that few offices in the country can. During your routine visit you will be shown actual photos of your teeth on our computer. Using a miniature camera placed in your mouth, we are able to show you problems that may require attention. The area is magnified 24 times! You’ll be amazed at how clear it all appears! We feel that it is one of our key responsibilities to educate our patients about their dental health and treatment.

3 ) Magnifying loupes

Delivering precision dentistry requires visual accuracy and a delicate touch. Magnifying loupes provide a tremendous improvement in visual accuracy over the naked eye. The operating field is considerably enlarged. “It’s like working on a giant tooth by comparison.” says Dr. Shetty. “Everything is so crystal-clear and delivering excellent dentistry is much easier to do. I believe increased magnification is essential to deliver the precision required for quality dentistry. I could never go back to working without my loupes.”

QQuality patient care is our highest priority, and using magnification is one more step we take to provide our patients with excellent dental care.

Preventive Dentistry

At our clinic our dentists encourage and advise patients to improve long term oral health. It is important to take preventative measures such as regular check ups to avoid tooth decay and gum disease. These are two main reasons, which could result patient requiring invasive treatments such as fillings, root canal and extraction.

Fissure Sealant

Because the chewing surfaces of your back teeth are not flat, sometimes food and bacteria can get trapped in the cracks and pits (called fissures). It is suggested that they should be covered with a tough plastic coating to protect them. This treatment is normally given to children who are prone to tooth decay.

Fluoride Varnish

Application of fluoride gel can reduce tooth decay in children. As many as one in two children with high levels of tooth decay (and one in 24 with the lowest levels) would have less decay. It is recommended twice yearly application of fluoride varnish for children between the ages of 3-17years.

Smoking cessation advice

Our dentist offer smoking cessation advice to patients during routine check up. Advice is given on the affects of smoking on teeth and general health of a patient.

Our specially trained hygienist play an important role in dental health care and are mainly concerned with gum health, showing people correct home care and applying preventive materials to the teeth and gums.

However, perhaps their most important role is showing the patient the best way to keep the teeth free of plaque. They also give advice on diet and preventing dental decay. The dentist and hygienist work together to provide care tailored to your needs.

Restorative dentistry

Restorative treatment is, as the name implies, treatment to restore your mouth and gums to health. It can involve a number of different treatments including, for example, fillings, implants, crowns, veneers and root canal work. Any restorative treatment is only undertaken after we’ve explained what the problem is and discussed all the options with you.

Minimal invasive dentistry

At aesthete we offer the latest in 21 st century dental care through our approach of minimally invasive dentistry.

Principles of Minimally Invasive Dentistry

It performs the least amount of dentistry needed in any situation.

Always uses dental materials that conserve the maximum of tooth structure.

Uses only dental materials that have been researched by leading dental schools and research institutions and that are recommended by leading practising dentists.

Uses only the strongest and longest-lasting dental materials to reduce the need for future repairs and replacement.

Uses dental procedures that keep the number of necessary appointments to a minimum.

Uses only dental laboratories that use minimal invasive materials for the restoration of teeth.

Root canal

Root canal treatment is a procedure indicated for the cases when the pulp of the teeth – where the “nerve” is located – becomes infected or necrotic. This might happen due to widespread decay, trauma or as a long-term consequence of extensive restorations. Usually pulp infection results in acute intensive toothache and abscesses, but pulp necrosis might be a silent process. Either infection requires the attention of a skilled dentist, who will be able to eliminate the symptoms, disinfect the root canals and seal them appropriately.

Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic treatment, is a technique-sensitive procedure that can have a success rate as high as 96% if performed wisely and with modern technology. And don’t worry: despite the rumors of being a terrible treatment or previous bad experiences, it is done under local anesthetic and you are not supposed to feel a thing at all!

How is the procedure?

It usually takes only one appointment of one hour of duration, but if the infection is quite bad two visits might be needed. After effectively numbing and isolating the tooth, the endodontist opens it to have access to the canals. The morphology of the canals can be quite tricky and that is why the success of the treatment depends significantly on technology and experience. After carefully disinfecting the canals, the dentist will seal them with a material called gutta-percha. A final restoration – a crown or onlay – then follows.

Pediatric dentistry

Dental appointments for children are important not only to evaluate tooth and gum health but also to educate the young patient in how to prevent dental problems and maintain a healthy smile throughout his or her life.

During a check-up, we will evaluate:

  • How many teeth are & should be present
  • Loose teeth
  • Cavities
  • Gum health
  • Bite habit
  • Tongue & speech
  • Fluoride use
  • Diet & health history
  • Home care & prevention

We will talk with you about your child’s oral health and hygiene, including teething, fluoride, brushing and flossing, cavities, sealants and orthodontics. Are you afraid to take your child to the dentist? At Aesthete there’s no need to fear. With the latest advancements, we are revolutionizing children’s dentistry.

Your children have a right to feel comfortable, and so do you

Gum treatment

Periodontitis, the scientific name for Gum Disease, is a chronic infection of the tissues that support your teeth – the jawbone and the gums. It is established throughout the years and is usually associated with bad breath, bleeding gums, mild to severe discomfort and teeth that present mobility and unpleasant appearance. If left untreated it will ultimately lead to bone and tooth loss.

What causes it?

Mainly, insufficient oral hygiene. There are several risk factors that can make you more susceptible to this disease, such as inadequate restorations (bridges, fillings, dentures), genetics, smoking, diabetes and systemic diseases that weaken your immune system.

How to treat gum disease?

Periodontitis is irreversible, but it can definitively be arrested and its symptoms can be reversed. This is achieved by adjusting oral hygiene techniques, replacing inadequate restorations and localized antibiotic therapy. In extreme cases, simple surgical procedures are crucial to improve significantly the gum condition.

Keep an immaculate oral hygiene and coming back for regular check ups is essential for maintaining healthy gums.

Periodontal Maintenance: “More than just another tune-up”

At aesthete  we can’t stress enough how routine visits for examinations and periodontal maintenance will help you keep your teeth for a lifetime.

First, it is important to distinguish the difference between a polishing and a periodontal treatment. A polishing is the removal of stains that develop on the teeth. These stains can develop from many different factors. The removal of these stains is for purely cosmetic reasons and need only be done when they become very noticeable.

A periodontal treatment is necessary to maintain the health of the gums and supporting bone. These visits are not for cosmetic concerns (though, gum disease can be very unsightly) but for health reasons. Gum treatments need to be done on a routine basis, possibly every 3 to 4 months in order to prevent the recurrence of periodontal disease.

Maintainence is the key factor in preventing gum disease and keeping our teeth strong for a lifetime.

Replacing lost or missing teeth is very important, both for your health and your appearance. A partial or full denture replaces your natural teeth and gives support to your cheeks and lips, so you can enjoy a healthy diet, look great and smile with confidence. Dentures can either be made from acrylic or metal, and are designed to look and function like your own natural teeth and the surrounding gum tissues. Today’s dentures look very realistic and are comfortable to wear.

We use the latest technology to design the the best dentures.

At aesthete we also offer the options of Flexible Dentures, which provide a closer, more comfortable fit. If you find that your partial dentures are loose or uncomfortable to wear, especially while chewing foods, we can offer you a more comfortable solution. When our patients cannot accommodate a normal plastic partial denture, a flexible partial denture can be offered as an alternative. This is because flexible dentures adjust easily to any irregularities in the mouth to provide a fit that is more comfortable. They are designed to accommodate even the most awkward of bite types . Tooth extraction

Tooth extraction is most definitely a last resort. However, there are some cases where a tooth cannot be saved, or to do so would incur a great deal of expense for short-term gain. Removing the tooth itself takes relatively little time and is not painful. The only thing you will feel is a bit of pressure, and a local anesthetic is usually sufficient for most people. Once the tooth is removed we will discuss your options in terms of a replacement, such as a bridge or implant.

Sleep apnea

People with sleep apnea stop breathing while they sleep, sometimes hundreds of times per night, sometimes for a minute or longer.

Sleep apnea affects about 18 million people of all ages in the U.S. It takes three forms: obstructive, central and mixed.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), the most common form, occurs when the soft tissue at the back of the throat closes, blocking (obstructing) the person’s airway. The airway remains open in central sleep apnea, but the brain does not send signals to the muscles involved in breathing. Mixed sleep apnea combines aspects of the obstructive and central types.

A common warning sign of sleep apnea is snoring, especially snoring interspersed with gasps or lack of breathing, although the two are not always related.

Sleep apnea sufferers are roused from sleep briefly to resume proper breathing, disrupting and lowering the quality of a person’s rest. Consequently, sleep apnea can cause a number of health problems. If left untreated, it can result in high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, stroke, memory problems, weight gain, impotency, headaches, and daytime fatigue, leading to job impairment and motor vehicle crashes. We at aesthete are well-versed in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep apnea. We custom-fit special devices called TAP appliances to -Short for Thornton Adjustable Positioners, TAP appliances consist of two plastic pieces that fit over the upper and lower teeth and hold the lower jaw forward during sleep to help keep the airway open.

There are a variety of treatments available for sleep apnea. If you think you are suffering from sleep apnea, talk with us and we will discuss which treatment is right for you.
